DATA fork stripper
Useful for removing PPC code from fat binary applications. If you don't have a Power Macintosh, this enables you to save disk space with programs that are "fat binary". Other uses: Clean up files that normally only have resource forks. (Such as applications that put personalization information in the data fork.)
RSRC fork stripper
Useful for removing previews, custom icons, etc.. from standard PICT files. Other uses: Clean up files that normally only have data forks. (Such as most 'TEXT' files.)
RSRC name stripper
Removes the names of all resources in a file (usually an application) except for 'FOND' resources, where the name is significant. Also removes all 'TMPL' resources. The reason for this utility is to allow for the easy removal of the descriptive names for resources used during the development cycle. This is only beneficial if references to resources are made solely by number, if "GetNamedResource" is used, this utility will cause problems. The technique that I use is to give descriptive names to all resources using ResEdit during the development cycle. Whenever I build an application, I drag it to "RSRC name stripper" to remove all the descriptive text and also the ResEdit 'TMPL' resources. ('TMPL' resources are handy to use, by the way!) The benefits are memory savings, both in RAM and on disk, and "neatness"! (NOTE: to prevent accidental removal of resource names from ResEdit files, you must hold down the "option" key for ResEdit 'rsrc' type files.)
These extremely small and simple applications are "ThankYouWare". If you find them useful, all you have to do is say "thank you." My email address is "rolandg@crl.com"
